I'm going for a two-tone crackled paint finish and am using the emulsion paint left over from painting the walls, which works best for crackling. I'm also replacing the knobs by pulls I ordered on eBay. The first step is to apply a coat of grey. Once this is dry, I apply crackling medium (I used Rustoleum here). The trick with this medium, I find, is to apply quickly a thick coat on flat surfaces to avoid it dripping.

On with a rough coat of olive green emulsion. It will balance well with the light grey of the wardrobe - read about this here. I want a really shabby job here. I let it crackle. Close up on the lovely crackling...

Now on go the new drawer cup pulls for an industrial flavour et voila!

Zak is over the moon with his chest and is planning to insert labels in the pulls (M40s, Nitro, Ammo, etc...). Note I've painted Zak's toddler's chair that had seen better days (and was covered in stickers, grrr) in the yellow emulsion I used for the bedroom door, which gives a good idea of how all the colours work together.
