Valentine cabinet

I was sitting on this box-standard solid pine side cabinet and I suddenly had the urge to transform it into a glamorous, exotic and feminine object...

This is the before picture.

I started with a thick base of Annie Sloan Graphite Chalk Paint to create depth and texture.

Graphite base coat

Followed by custom ASCP colours mixed onto a matt to get soft pinks and tones of green and blue. I used Henrietta, Antibes Green and Aubusson. I applied the patterns using a stencil at random.

The piece was dry brushed with Paris Grey. Dry brushing is achieved by wiping the loaded brush onto a cloth or some cardboard so that it is almost dry and only a little paint is left on it - hence the name of the method - before brushing the surface of the piece lightly and randomly to give an aged look to the paint and bring out the texture.

A few splatters of Paris Grey were added for good measure (I flicked the brush bristles loaded with paint onto the piece).

Some quite heavy distressing with sandpaper. Sealed with a light coat dark wax. No buffing.

Gorgeous brass Chinese style pulls where added.

The drawers were lined with vinyl.
