Dominique painting faux-bone inlayABOUT

Dominique's career as an art editor on lifestyle magazines in London took a turn when she became a mum and looked at what the future held for her son. Sustainability was not a widespread concern yet and journalists did not promote handmade or upcycled products as they do now. Enticing people to consume in harmful ways made no longer sense to her. As a designer obsessed with vintage and interiors, she wanted to become active in finding ways to promote sustainable lifestyles.

She created Malphor. A business turning unwanted vintage furniture (300 tons/year in the UK!) into objects of design coveted by the eccentric and the eco-conscious. She helps create timeless classic interiors layered with bohemian decadence and a dash of gothic glamour.

Her son is now 14 years old!

Pearlescent Glaze LaunchDominique, the creative force behind Malphor, designed and freehand-painted a faux bone inlay bedroom set for Annie Sloan's 30th Anniversary launch of Pearlescent Glaze, and demonstrates the step-by-step on Annie Sloan's website. Her work was featured in The Colourist, House&Homes (Canada), Homes&Antiques, Real Homes, House Beautiful, Living Oxfordshire and Around&About. She was asked to sit on the Ask An Expert panel at Grand Designs Live 2019, and had her work exhibited at Grand Designs Live 2022. She is a member of the House of Upcycling and is fully accredited by Annie Sloan.
